The Unidroit Principles of International Commercial Contacts is an entirely new approach to international contract law. They are widely recognized now as a balanced set of rules designed for use throughout the world irrespective of the legal traditions and the economic and political conditions of the countries in which they are applied. The Unidroit Principles in Practice provides a comprehensive collection of international case law and bibliographic materials relating to the Principles. This chapter discusses provisions on assignment of rights which includes definitions, assignability of non-monetary rights, partial assignment, future rights and notice to the obligor. It discusses provisions on transfer of obligations which includes modes of transfer, exclusion, advance consent of obligee, discharge of old obligor and third party performance. The chapter discusses provisions on assignment of contracts which includes definitions, exclusion, requirement of consent of the other party, discharge of the assignor and rights transferred with the contract.
