Chapter Summary

This index is a list of author names relevant to the discussion of arguing that northern Kyushu was the centre of Yayoi political hegemony, but do not amount to evidence for Yamatai itself. This study Kyushu: Gateway to Japan is an attempt to highlight some of the undercurrents within the mainstream of Japanese history by presenting a regional field of view located between these local and national perspectives. It provides an overview with a closer focus on salient themes in Kyushu's development than can be found in most general histories.

Keywords: northern Kyushu; Yayoi political hegemony
