Chapter Summary

This chapter narrates the author's experiences during his trip around the world, between 7 June and 10 July 1889. The Group arrived in San Francisco to begin the North America leg of their journey. They visited Yosemite Valley, Golden Gate Park and Cliff House. They took a ferry and train to reach to Raymond, the nearest station to Yosemite. Here they visited The Bridal Veil, Cathedral Rocks, Nevada Falls. They also enjoyed the sun rise upon Mirror Lake. After their return back to San Francisco they visited the Chinese quarter of the city, the Pioneers' Club. On the way to Portland they stopped at Upper Soda Springs, where there are some natural mineral waters springing up close to the railroad. They saw Mount Shasta, with its peak covered with snow. The wonderful peaks of the Rockies, great prairies of America, and Winnipeg also formed a part of their tour.
