Chapter Summary

New women emerged in the twentieth century, became the first to do a number of things. A new generation of women is becoming visible in Uzbekistan. They have opportunities, and their life has not yet been predetermined, as nineteenth century women was. They understand that the future depends on them alone, and on their persistence and diligence. Women who are confident and dignified, who respect themselves and are respected by others, who are mothers as well as workers, can make a contribution to the formation of the new nation just as well as men can. And it is only possible for a society to move forward if it denies the mistakes it has made in the past and shakes off the burden the past places on it, and instead trusts in the justice which is due to each one of its members.

Keywords: twentieth century; Uzbekistan; women's diligence; women's persistence
