Chapter Summary

This chapter talks about the state of China, Beijing, the Central Military Commission, the South China Sea, the Chinese-Russian frontier in Heilongjiang. The main industrial centres and plants, apart from a few towns in the vicinity of naval bases, were entirely undamaged. It was called a 'perfect surgical operation'. The repercussions of the massive nuclear attack, even when indirect and fortuitous as a ricochet, could also grow into something massive, equally violent, irrational and uncontrollable. The Central Military Commission, re-named Headquarters of the Commander in Chief of China, was now the sole source of authority in the country. The United Nations does not consider that China is a defeated or an occupied country, therefore former leading figures have not lost their legal status. In the long term, the containment of Russia's imperial ambitions is extremely important for the future of the United States.
