Chapter Summary

This section presents a list of reference articles and chapters for this book The Kazakhs: Children of the Steppes. Although Kazakhs were little known to the outside world until relatively recently, their name has been on European tongues at the very least since the eighteenth century, albeit in distorted form. Russia used the Kazakh steppe as a base for this military invasion of Central Asia and, following the British, they came to call it Turkestan.
