Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of terms and concepts that occur in the book The Jehol Diary Yŏrha ilgi of Pak Chiwŏn (1737-1805). The Diary describes many aspects of China's superior material culture in those villages, towns and cities the author visited en route to Jehol, and compared them to the backwardness of Korean methodology and economic institutions. Pak resigned from the government post in 1801 and the following year returned to Yŏnam, where he had once escaped with his life during a purge of the literati.

Keywords: Jehol; Korean methodology; Pak Chiwŏn
