Intellectual property protection is a dynamic fi eld of law necessitating regular adaptation to technological, economic and social developments. As was made clear in Article 71, Members are aware of the constant need of review and will support further development of the TRIPS Agreement. In accordance with Article 71.1, the Council for TRIPS, whose tasks are described in general in Article 68, acts as a monitoring body in respect of the further development and adaptation of the TRIPS Agreement. Pursuant to Article 71.1, a first review concerning the implementation of the TRIPS Agreement is to take place after the expiry of the transitional period referred to in Article 65.2 that is 1 January 2000. Article 71.2 deals with the procedure to be followed when introducing amendments to the TRIPS Agreement.
