The Actions of the Crc Committee

Chapter Summary

The functions to be performed by the CRC Committee are outlined in Articles 44 and 45 of the CRC. The Committee has two main tasks: firstly, examining the progress made by the States in giving effect to the convention's standards and secondly, assisting and advising the States in implementing the Convention. The CRC Committee has the advantage of being supported by the NGO Group for the CRC which aims to facilitates the flow of information between the NGO community and the Committee. The Committee also seeks to cooperate with the other treaty bodies, special rapporteurs/representatives, experts and chairpersons of working groups of the Human Rights Commission. The Committee hence definitely made efforts and created important advances. NGOs in their turn use the reporting procedure to raise awareness about the rights of the child and to promote realisation of these rights.
