Chapter Summary

There are two aspects to the requirement set out in Article 24 (4) of the CRC. The first is in general to promote and make use of international cooperation in order to facilitate the protection and the full realisation of the right of the child to health; the second is to take special measures to meet the needs of the developing countries, many of whom will be in need of international assistance to secure all their children the highest attainable standard of health. The choice of appropriate health-related policies, both preventive and curative, is under continuous discussion in the WHO, and guidelines and recommendations are elaborated as new insights and recognized. It should be added that special attention should be given to children and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
