Chapter Summary

The first part of this chapter focuses on the membership and decision-making procedures of the organization. In the second part, the question is whether Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) has implemented important principles such as the precautionary approach and the protection of marine biodiversity. Here the relationship between measures adopted by Canada and NAFO for the same fish stocks is evaluated. The third part looks into the allocation of fishing rights or the access to the fish stocks regulated through NAFO. The fourth part of the analysis concerns the implementation and enforcement of measures adopted by NAFO, and is rounded off with some conclusions.
