Chapter Summary

The front matter section of this book Making History contains table of contents, list of contributors, list of illustrations, abbreviations and preface. Since Josephus was present at the siege of Gamala, it may well yield more information than the Masada episode, but Atkinson finds that while Josephus' account of Vespasian's siege is a valuable source for Roman warfare, his descriptions of the topography and fortifications of the site are not accurate.
