Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book titled The book of Jubilees: rewritten Bible, redaction, ideology, and theology contains preface. The book of Jubilees rewrites the Torah from Genesis through the middle of Exodus. However, in contrast to Gen 1, Jubilees does not open with the creation of the world, but rather, with a narrative framework dated to the 16th of the third month, the day after the Sinaitic covenant according to the Jubilees calendar. According to Jub. 1, the opening of which is parallel to Exod 24:12–18, when Moses ascended Sinai for a second time, the Lord revealed to him “the divisions of the times for the law and for the testimony”. At the end of the chapter, the Lord commanded the angel of the presence “to dictate [to Moses from the beginning of creation until my sanctuary is built among them for all the ages of eternity]”.
