Chapter Summary

This section presents a list of ancient Jewish sources that occur in the book titled The Book of Jubilees: rewritten Bible, redaction, ideology and theology. Jubilees are rightly considered one of the prominent examples of “Rewritten Bible”. The work generally follows the content and order of Genesis and Exodus, although sometimes certain changes in sequence have been introduced, often due to chronological considerations. In the rewriting of the Torah, a new work was created, which contains new ideas and biblical interpretation, but one can almost always identify the biblical passage underlying the reworking. Entire passages from the Pentateuch were copied into the new literary work, often with only minor changes.
