Chapter Summary

Human Rights Education in China (HREC) has witnessed enormous progress and conceptual changes due to the resolve and commitment by the Chinese government to promote and protect human rights. Nationwide Legal-Awareness-Raising Campaign (NLARC) is the most enormous human rights education project in the world, since it is taking place in a country where one fifth of the world's population lives. The new Course of Rule of Law uses two textbooks for primary and secondary schools respectively. It introduces the concepts of basic human rights by listing relevant laws, cases and illustrative stories. Human rights education is an important part of International cooperation on human rights education and being conducted at all levels and dimensions. As the coherent part of the Strategy of Rule of Law and the Program of Judicial Reform carried out by the Chinese government, HREC is definitely prospering with the rapid but multidimensional development of China.
