Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book The Alphabet of Nature presents the table of contents, a list of plates, an introduction, and a note on the text. The book argues that Hebrew was not only the original language, or Ursprache, but that it is also a "natural" language in as much as Hebrew words exactly mirror things. The book offers a practical method for teaching the deaf to speak, and it is primarily a philosophical work arguing that Hebrew was the divine language of creation in which words exactly expressed the essential natures of things.
