This chapter deals with the Declaration and Treaty Establishing the Southern African Development Community (SADC). SADC is the successor organisation to the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC) originally formed on 1 Apr 1980. SADC headquarters are in Gaborone, Botswana (site of the former SADCC secretariat). The objectives of SADC shall be to: promote and maximise productive employment and utilisation of resources of the region.
