Chapter Summary

The book provides an account of the diversity of ritual activity and their significance for gender constructions in Iran today. It examines how gender views, ideas and beliefs were being formed or projected through ritual activities at the time of my research in the early 1990's. This was a particularly important time in respect of the resurgence of feminist debates within the Islamic Republic.
