Chapter Summary

This section of the book Vauban Under Siege: Engineering Efficiency and Martial Vigor in the War of the Spanish Succession includes six appendixes. Appendix one contains a table of Allied campaign lengths in Flanders. The second appendix discusses siege data methodology. The details of the period’s siegecraft have remained hidden, in small part, because access to Vauban’s personal papers has been extremely limited, although wider access has been granted in the past decade. The third appendix talks about siege dataset. This database is incomplete, but it does provide enough information to examine siegecraft during the War of the Spanish Succession. Non-siege positional tactics is described in the fourth appendix. The fifth appendix presents a table, which lists specific estimates of siege lengths by siege, sorted chronologically from earliest to latest estimate within each siege. The last appendix section deals with siege artillery.
