Chapter Summary

This section describes the story of Legendary Mânsalóng in Lepcha text with its English translation. A number of Lepcha morphemes index grammatical categories which can be combined with constituents of different syntactic status, that is, with nouns, with verbs and with entire clauses. In Lepcha, it is possible to make a distinction between 'genuine' case endings, which are suffixes that exhibit morphological behaviour proper to suffixes and postpositional case endings, which do not show any morphophonological interaction with the nominal which they modify.
