The book examines the traditional kingdom and the place of religion, the Vodún, in its politics. It discusses the Weltanschauung that produced the Vodún that still underlies Benin today and informs the religious imaginary of the Béninois. The book refers to as Danxomε-Benin, in recognition of the inextricable links between the historical kingdom and the modern state.
