Chapter Summary

This chapter presents exegesis of the Zion text of Isaiah 28:16. It provides results of research with a view to drawing some provisional conclusions as a point of departure for further research into the place of Zion and the Zion tradition in the preaching of Isaiah. The chapter provides an overview of the contexts in which the name Zion is referred to in the first part of the book of Isaiah. It provides an overview of extent to which Zion is referred to in the first part of the book of Isaiah (1–39) together with the manner with which the references are made. It is evident from the overview that ‘Zion’ as a theme already enjoyed a place of prominence in the first part. The chapter provides conclusions relevant to the question of the Zion tradition in the preaching of Isaiah based on the exegesis of the Zion text.
