Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of author names and terms that are mentioned in the book Money and Violence: Financial Self-Help Groups in a South African Township. It contains a list of recent volumes in the book Afrika-Studiecentrum Series. Towards the end of the 20th century social change was no longer conceptualised in terms of transition from traditional to modern, while distinctions between personal gifts and so-called 'rational' market exchange were no longer regarded as fruitful avenues of research on economic change. Research into economic change examines the constant reconfiguration of social relations and symbolic orientations under a capitalist economy.

Keywords: Afrika-Studiecentrum Series; capitalist economy; market exchange
