Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Logic and Ontology in the Syllogistic of Robert Kilwardby contains the table of contents, list of figures, list of tables, preface and notation. The author's interest in Robert Kilwardby was sparked by the reprinting in 1968 of the 1516 edition of his commentary on the Prior Analytics, under the name of Giles of Rome. Intermittently he pondered sundry matters in the commentary, including its distinction between essential and accidental consequences, and its discussion of the nature of conversion. Then in 2004 the author was fortunate to win a grant from the Australian Research Council to work more extensively on Kilwardby's commentary. The book is the outcome of the research the author did under that grant.
