Chapter Summary

This front matter section of the book Prayer in Josephus presents the table of contents, and the introduction. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus has attracted a good deal of attention in recent years, and there has also been great interest in the subject of prayer in early Judaism. However, no detailed study has as yet been made of prayer in the work of Josephus, a study in which these two areas of research may be combined to the mutual benefit of both. The book focuses on Josephus' views on prayer, the manner in which he uses prayers in his narrative and the ideas which emerge from his prayers. The section also outlines the content available in other chapters of the book.
