Chapter Summary

This bibliography section of the book The Canonization of al-Bukhārī and Muslim contains a list of reference books and materials. The canonization of al-Bukhārī and Muslim form part of the greater drama of the formation of Sunni Islam. Niẓā m al-Mulk's fifth/eleventh-century world brought together all the leading characters in this saga. Among them were the textualist Ḥanbalīs and the more rationalist Shāfiʿīs, both heirs to the heritage of 'the partisans of ḥadīth' but divided over the role of specula.
