Internationally operating Non-governmental organization (NGOs) are increasingly involved in international politics and policy-making. This book focuses on NGOs that are internationally active, regardless of how exactly they are organized. These internationally active NGOs often involve grassroots NGOs in their actions and policies. Even so, some international NGOs do refer to themselves as grassroots organizations. Usually, this means is that the local perspective is taken into account and actions are initiated locally and not somewhere far away. The main objective of the book is to provide the main elements and principles that can lie at the basis of a rationally satisfying and practically feasible conception of NGO legitimacy.
