Chapter Summary

This index section presents a list of names, concepts and terms that occur in the book Ibn Taymiyya's Theodicy of Perpetual Optimism. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order. Ibn Taymiyya is well known today as a major inspiration for contemporary Islamic resurgence, and it is common knowledge among students of modern Islam that the writings of the shaykh are important sources for the eighteenth and nineteenth century Washābī movement in Arabia and modernist reformers such as Rashād Ribḍa. While modern Muslim interest in Ibn Taymiyya is often thought to be social and political, there is anecdotal evidence that it extends to theodicy as well.

Keywords: Ibn Taymiyya's theodicy; modern Islam; perpetual optimism
