Chapter Summary

The contracting parties undertake to co-operate with each other to give effect to the forgoing provisions, and to communicate to each other through the Secretary-General of the United Nations copies of any laws and regulations enacted to implement the provisions of this Convention. The basis of what would become Article 8 of the 1956 Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery is found in Article 6 of that 1954 British Draft Convention. Much of the discussion during the negotiation process of what would become Article 8 of the 1956 Supplementary Convention on the Abolition of Slavery, the Slave Trade, and Institutions and Practices Similar to Slavery focused on the role the United Nations might have in assisting cooperation and communication where the Convention was concerned.
