Chapter Summary

This chapter is a part of the 119 works from the corpus of the Latin dialogues of the Middle Ages presented in this book Lateinische Dialoge 1200-1400. It presents the title, incipit and explicit as well as information on author, date, textual transmission, editions and a summary of the contents. The chapter presents a long, detailed dialogue between Clerc and Miles on the topic of royal power and papal power. Clerc defended the Papal primacy over the king, while the Miles defended the Gallican position, namely that both had different areas of impact and the Pope was superior to the king only in dignity. The original text of the chapter is in German.
