Chapter Summary

This chapter is a part of the 119 works from the corpus of the Latin dialogues of the Middle Ages presented in this book Lateinische Dialoge 1200 -1400. It presents the title, incipit and explicit as well as information on author, date, textual transmission, editions and a summary of the contents of the dialogue regarding the dialogue between Mary and soul. It describes the discussion between the holiness of Augustine, the soul and the Blessed Virgin Mary. This dialogue relates to the one discussed in Chapter 4.5. The text is mostly attributed to Augustine and refers to the Bernhard treatise, which was prevalent in the 13th century. In this dialogue, the soul asks Maria to describe pain in order to gain empathy. Her story is frequently interrupted by cries of Anima, with whom she emphasizes her compassion and love for Christ.
