Chapter Summary

This chapter is a part of the 119 works from the corpus of the Latin dialogues of the Middle Ages presented in this book Lateinische Dialoge 1200 -1400. It presents the title, incipit and explicit as well as information on author, date, textual transmission, editions and a summary of the contents of the dialogue regarding the arguments between Christ and the devil while Christ was hanging on the cross. The information found in this dialogue relates fourteen arguments between Christ and the devil, arguments that took place for the salvation of the humanity. The use of legal reasoning from the Roman law shows that all three texts present in the manuscript with the dialogue may have occurred earlier in the 12th century. The original text of the chapter is in German.
