Chapter Summary

This appendix section presents the genealogy of early Quanzhen Daoism including the hypothesized teachers of Wang Chongyang and other influences on the early movement. A chart of the Quanzhen patriarchs, from the first (Wang Chongyang) through the eighth (Qi Zhicheng), is also provided. With a varied system of symbols, this section attempts to map the actual complexity of religious communities, emphasizing the multi-lineal rather than uni-lineal directions of influence.

Keywords: Quanzhen Daoism; religious communities; Wang Chongyang
