Chapter Summary

This appendix presents a list of examples quoted relevant to the analysis of the demotic proverbs and the Greek proverbs. The concordance of the examples is based upon the numbering given in this book rather than their location in the ancient collection, so that the reader can trace more easily the cross-references made in the book. The book concentrates on proverb collections from the Hellenistic and Roman periods, as within this time span one can observe a parallel development in the production of works involving proverbs, as well as an intensive cultural contact between the two Mediterranean civilizations.

Keywords: demotic proverbs; Greek proverbs; Hellenistic periods; Mediterranean civilizations; Roman periods
