Chapter Summary

While this book was in printing some relevant documents were released by the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (UNGWEID). The UNGWEID remains concerned that, of the 79 States with outstanding cases, some governments have never replied to its requests for information or reminders. The UNGWEID strongly encourages the establishment of investigating bodies, truth commissions and war crimes tribunals, as concrete actions that may lead to the clarification of cases and to the implementation of compensation policies for victims.
