Chapter Summary

The higher education system for the intellectual elite in the Bernese polity, the parish and teaching staff outlined in few lines. Some graduates of the high school had been learning the ancient languages and the basics of artistic curriculum were sent to foreign universities, for training. At the high school in Bern future pastors and teachers received their primary education; and further study at university level was deemed for a suitable group of students. Responsible for the acquisition of education was no longer for any single potential students, but ultimately the council, as just defeated the parish clergy in the post-Reformation period of the 16th century. With the formation of the priest a topic is addressed, which are both the Catholic as well as the Evangelical oriented research, which is concerned for some time and even still more attention in recent years.
