Chapter Summary

The chapters selected for this book are not arranged chronologically according to their date of publication. While translating his original German essays and writing the addenda sections, the author concluded that the book should have a thematic progression. The chapters are all linked by one single central theme: the author's preoccupation with manuscripts and what he concludes from them. This introductory chapter mentions examples to demonstrate that an interdisciplinary and at the same time multi-disciplinary approach is the best way to make progress and to cross-check the results of the other academic disciplines. Contrary to his initial thinking, the author regards the addenda sections of the book as its core pieces.
