Chapter Summary

This appendix presents content of the paragraphs of Calcidius’s commentarius on astronomy and cosmology. Calcidius divided his material into two parts, the first on the fixed stars and the planets (cc. 56–97) and the second part on the heavens and on time (cc. 98–118), which was directed largely against the Stoics. Some of the paragraphs are quite routine. Others reveal the fundamental agenda of their author.

Keywords: fixed stars; astronomy; Calcidius’s commentarius; cosmology; paragraphs
