Chapter Summary

This index presents a list of texts from Old and New Testaments, texts from Qumran and other Jewish, Christian and classical writings that are mentioned in the book Heaven and Earth in the Gospel of Matthew. The Gospel of Matthew has been the pride of the church throughout most of her history. It was only in the wake of higher critical studies on the origins of the Gospels that Matthew began to have a rival for preeminence in Mark. But when reading the Gospels in their long-standing canonical order, it is easy to understand why Matthew has been so beloved and so important. The language of heaven is peppered generously throughout Matthew.
