Chapter Summary

This appendix of this book The World Trade Organization and Trade in Services includes three sections. First section contains general agreement on trade in services. Secondly, model schedule of WTO commitments for investment banking, trading, and asset management is discussed. With a view to enhancing the understanding, acceptance, and timely observation of regulatory standards and procedures by financial service suppliers, and thereby making regulation more effective, Members should maintain high levels of transparency and follow other general principles in their domestic regulatory processes. Last section outlines the insurance model schedule & best practices. The Proposed Model Schedule is a proposed text for the use of WTO Members in scheduling commitments under the framework of the GATS. It is suggested as a desirable text to be used not only when Members schedule new commitments, but also for Members who have already made commitments as described in each item of the text.
