Chapter Summary

The front matter section of the book Hyphenated Histories: Articulations of Central European Bildung and Slavic Studies in the Contemporary Academy contains the table of contents and introduction. The first section of the book tries to make sense of current institutional realities. These include pressures that have made it more difficult to publish the results of the reflective practice of reading and writing in monograph form, squeezing this work into more fragmentary varieties and venues of publication. The second section consists of a kaleidoscope of case studies, demonstrating how various disciplinary divisions of Slavic Studies can be overcome by adding together various hyphenated approaches: history and cultural studies, anthropology and oral history, film studies and photography.

Keywords: Central European Bildung study; Contemporary Academy; Hyphenated Histories; Slavic Studies
