Chapter Summary

This chapter provides a basic framework of what it means for a child to be religious. The psychological study of religion gives an insight into children's thinking on religion. On a psychological level, there are differences between adults and children, and they should not be treated the same. The study presented here is interesting as it points to a different approach to children and religion and it gives an insight into what children consider it is to be religious. It also points to the fact that, when they are asked, children have some ideas about God, their religious denomination, or participation. The reality is that children are not 'religious' on their own but are socialised and nurtured into a religious faith, in connection to their family and religious community.
