Chapter Summary

The front matter section of the book Philo's Scriptures: Citations from the Prophets and Writings contains table of contents, a note to the reader (explanatory observations) and preface. The book presents background material that contributes to the understanding of Philo the man as a product of his time and place. It surveys how Philo quotes the Pentateuch. With very few exceptions, he does not use the names of the discrete books, Genesis, Exodus, but quotes the Pentateuch as a unit, by such names as Holy Scripture.

Keywords: Holy Scripture; Pentateuch; Philo
