Chapter Summary

This chapter deals with the context of the larger issue of confessional theologian training. It outlines the impact of the Reformation on school and education in the Netherlands, which is necessarily limited in two respects: On the one hand, the analysis is limited locally to the Reformation of old Hanseatic city of Kampen, a province of Overijssel. On the other hand, the investigation focused on the local grammar school. The chapter first explains the preface of the treatise Passio Domini Nostri Jesus Christ of Caspar Holstech, the rector of the Latin school. It explores that the educational profile should be systematically collected on the basis of reformed school regulations. Finally the chapter examines the collection of books of the first urban parish library after the Reformation for the confessional identity and traces a concentrated study of its founders and users. The original text of the chapter is in German.
