Chapter Summary

ISAF is a UN-mandated operation under United Nations Security Council resolution (UNSCR's) 1386 and later 1413 and 1444. The mission of ISAF is to assist the Afghan Transitional Authority (ATA) in maintaining security within the area of greater Kabul so that the ATA as well as the personnel of the UN can operate in a secure environment. United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF) aims at the well being of children. In Afghanistan, the organisation particularly focuses on immunisation of children against measles and polio, provision of clean water and sanitation facilities and the improvement of prenatal, natal and post-natal care coverage.
