Chapter Summary

The business and industry advisory committee (BIAC) is an independent organization that represents the organization for economic cooperation and development (OECD) business community. BIAC was created in March 1962 as the official representative of the OECD business community. BIAC members are the major industrial and employers' organizations in the 30 OECD member countries. BIAC member organizations represent most of the enterprises to which the MNE Guidelines apply. The organizational structure of BIAC includes a General Assembly, made up of all member associations. Every second year, the General Assembly elects an Executive Board made up of eight members, whose mandates can be renewed coming from the business sector with an eye for international issues. BIAC relies solely on member organizations subscriptions to finance its activities. BIAC's current priorities include freedom of investment and taxation. BIAC contends that these issues are at the core of transnational economic governance.
