Chapter Summary

The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) is the international organization representing stock exchanges at the global level. The membership structure of the WFE is divided into Members, Affiliates, and Correspondents. The WFE is incorporated as a not-for-profit organization under the 1901 French Law on Associations. Under its Statutes, the organization consists of a General Assembly, a Board of Directors, a Working Committee as well as a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary-General. The vast majority of the Federation's revenue comes from the required Member, Affiliate, and Correspondent financial contributions that are set by the General Assembly. The core activities of the WFE have focused on promoting the role and development of the exchange industry and its regulation. There are a number of trends and challenges that emerge with the evolution of the financial industry, including over-the-counter (OTC) finance and its challenge for regulated markets as key spaces of finance.
