Ecma International (Ecma) is a non-profit industry association whose aim is to develop standards for information and communication technology (ICT) and consumer electronics (CE). Ecma standards have been concerned, inter alia, with communications technologies, scripting and programming languages, product safety, optical storage, environmental design, volume file structures, universal 3D open file format, XML paper specifications and office open XML formats. Ecma has five categories of membership: one for non-profit making organizations and four categories for companies. The authorities of Ecma are the General Assembly, and the Management and the Coordinating Committees. The primary source of income for Ecma is the annual fee paid by its members. As a Standard setting organizations (SSO) operating in the field of information and communication technologies and consumer electronics, Ecma aims to provide a balance between 'technical quality' and 'business value'.
