The International Telecommunications Satellite Organisation (ITSO) is an intergovernmental organization charged with the oversight of the activities of the 'INTELSAT Company'. Membership of ITSO is open to any member of the United Nations or the International Telecommunication Union. In 2008 there were 148 ITSO members. The principal organ of ITSO is an Assembly of all its Parties which meets every two years or more often if required. The 'Core Principles' of ITSO are the maintenance of global connectivity and global coverage, non-discriminatory access to the INTELSAT system, and continued service to INTELSAT lifeline connectivity customers.
