Chapter Summary

The International Federation of Agricultural Producers (IFAP) is a world farmer's organization. It is a global network in which farmers from industrialised and developing countries exchange concerns and set common priorities. The goal of IFAP is to promote the creation and strengthening of independent, representative organizations of farmers throughout the world. The Committee of Women in Agriculture was established in 1992. Membership of the Federation is open for any organization or combination of organizations recognised by the IFAP as substantially and nationally representative of the agricultural primary producers within a country. The Federation is financed by contributions from its member organizations, which are granted on a voluntary basis. In addition the Federation receives development assistance to fund its developing countries activities. The Federation aims to assure world food and nutritional security and reasonable livelihoods for farm families. Agricultural markets have also been boosted by expanding biofuels programmes.
